About Government Assisted LIfeline Program

The Lifeline program is a government funded public benefit program. The program is available to eligible low-income consumers in every state, territory, commonwealth, and on Tribal lands. It provides a free phone for all qualifying low-income consumers to ensure they can connect to jobs, family and emergency services. Lifeline is part of the Universal Service Fund and is administered by the Universal Service Administrative Company (USAC).

Eligibility

A comprehensive reform and initiatives for the modernization of the Lifeline program were adopted on March 31, 2016. As per the new guidelines on eligibility, individuals can qualify for the LifeLine program if their Income is at or below 135% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines. The chart for the Federal Poverty Guidelines – 2017, is given below.

Individuals can also qualify for the Lifeline program if they are already participating in any of the government benefit programs listed below.
